Towards Sustainable Cultural Sector: Understanding Carbon Management

This workshop introduces the fundamentals of greenhouse gas emissions, carbon management and sustainable practices for management and senior practitioners in Hong Kong’s cultural sector.

The workshop will briefly cover Scope 1, 2, and 3 emissions while providing a hands-on introduction to carbon emissions calculation. Through sharing real-life scenarios, participants will understand the major emission sources from the performing and visual arts activities.

Drawing on established best practices, the participants will also explore how these approaches can be adapted to Hong Kong’s unique cultural and operational context. Participants will form into groups to discuss the existing emissions across venues, productions, promotions, operations, and audience management; through navigating the challenges and resources, the discussion aims to explore potential and practical solutions.

By the end of the workshop, participants will be better equipped to interpret carbon emissions information and understand its relevance to the sector. The knowledge gained will provide a solid foundation for making informed decisions and taking meaningful action towards meeting both local and international sustainability standards.
