About the Conference

The theme of Hong Kong Culture and Sustainability Conference 2026 (CU:SU 2026) is “Alliance for Action”, which builds on the momentum of CU:SU 2025 discussions on “Advocacy, Practice, and Conservation”. CU:SU 2026 focuses on how ideas move into actions through international alliances and cross-disciplinary collaboration, responding to the broader needs of sustainable development through culture.

CU:SU 2026 brings together artists and practitioners from diverse cultural networks over two days of encounters and exchanges, opening different ways of imagining and enacting practice. Day One turns to the performing arts, reflecting on its ecosystem, modes of collaboration, and how practice is sustained and renewed across changing contexts. Day Two shifts focus to the making of sustainable communities, drawing on practices from rural contexts, visual culture, and social innovation to examine how culture can foster connection, support wellbeing, and invite wider forms of participation.

Beyond the conference sessions, a series of extension activities, CU:SU plus will take place during the conference period, transforming the encounters and exchanges into more focused and participatory settings. In these workshops, participants dialogue around specific themes and engage more deeply with shared questions, exploring possible actions moving forward.

This conference is co-presented and co-organised by The Hong Kong Academy for Performing Arts and Hong Kong Culture and Sustainability Centre.

The Hong Kong Academy for Performing Arts (HKAPA)

The Hong Kong Academy for Performing Arts (HKAPA), established by The Hong Kong Academy for Performing Arts Ordinance in 1984, is a world-leading higher education institution for the performing arts. It provides professionally-oriented undergraduate education and postgraduate studies in Chinese Opera, Dance, Drama, Film and Television, Music, and Theatre and Entertainment Arts. Its educational philosophy reflects the cultural diversity of Hong Kong with an emphasis on Chinese and Western traditions, and interdisciplinary learning. In the 2026 QS World University Rankings, the Academy ranks 10th for Performing Arts and 1st in Asia.

Hong Kong Culture and Sustainability Centre

Founded in 2025, led by Founder and Executive Director Louis Yu, the Centre organises the annual Hong Kong Culture and Sustainability Conference.

The objective of the Centre is to bring together stakeholders from the culture, business, environment, innovative technology, social services, and education sectors to promote sustainable development through arts and culture in Hong Kong, mainland China and the Asia.
